Let the countdown begin

Writer: jeannebjeanneb

We are not strangers to the departure. We are well prepped in provisioning, in pre-departure checklists, never ending lists of chores. But this time it seems BIG. After 20 years of being land-tied, there is so much more burden from which to disconnect. Mortgages, insurance, stuff, and more stuff. No matter how intent I am in simplification, in practicing THE ways to downsize for some reason this feels much different than it did when we were in our 20's.

Breathe, go to goodwill, give to friends, sell on ebay, re-gift, trash or store there are so many options for all the things we've collected. It seems like the simplification efforts never end. And then there is the on-going discussion -- do we need that? does it serve two purposes? did we use it last time? where will it fit on the boat?

Last time we ventured off, we took two years to acclimate. This time 4 months. But the project plan is sound. The trello board is better than the MS Project plan. The cell phone is better than the blackberry (I'm not even sure we had one of those last time?). The internet better than spending the day hunting for the random part at 6 different marine stores.

Some things are easier -- some things are harder. But the anticipation of untying the lines remains the same... and I'm sure will be worth the wait.
